The Law Offices of John Drew Warlick, P.A. Looks for Justice for Toxic Water Victims in Jacksonville, NC

Jacksonville, NC ― Military veterans, service members, civilians, and their families can now sue for devastating injuries they suffered from exposure to contaminated drinking water at the Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune over a 34-year period.

The Camp Lejeune Justice Act of 2022 enables victims to file lawsuits demanding compensation for illnesses and injuries linked to the toxic water, including several forms of cancer, adverse birth outcomes, Parkinson’s disease, and more.

The Law Offices of John Drew Warlick, P.A., a personal injury law firm in Jacksonville, NC, is ready to represent clients hurt by exposure to Camp Lejeune’s contaminated drinking water.

“This law finally provides a path to justice for our veterans, their families, and the community – justice that has been put off for too long,” says attorney John Drew Warlick Jr. “After all they have done for our country, we’re proud to protect those rights on their behalf.”

Who is Eligible To Sue For Injuries Under The Camp Lejeune Justice Act of 2022?

John Drew Warlick, Jr. with Jerry Ensminger, one of the primary pioneers of the Camp Lejeune water contamination legislation

The new legislation allows anyone exposed to the contaminated water at Camp Lejeune between August 1, 1953 and December 31, 1987 to file an injury claim in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina. Historically, many lawsuits were barred due to North Carolina’s 10-year statute of repose, which prevented victims from taking legal action if more than 10 years had passed since their toxic exposure.

What Diseases Could Result from the Toxic Water at Camp Lejeune?

Exposure to trichloroethylene (TCE), perchloroethylene (PCE), benzene, and vinyl chloride in the water at Camp Lejeune led the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to conclude that Marines, Naval workers, civilians, residents, infants, and children are at a greater risk of developing diseases such as:

  • Kidney cancer
  • Multiple myeloma
  • Leukemias
  • Adverse birth conditions
  • Other health problems

The U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) also names eight presumptive conditions linked to toxic water exposure at Camp Lejeune, including bladder cancer, liver cancer, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, aplastic anemia, and other myelodysplastic syndromes.

How Long Does Someone Have To File a Camp Lejeune Toxic Water Claim?

The victims from Camp Lejeune have two years from the date the law was passed to file a toxic water claim. That means you have until August 10, 2024 to pursue compensation. If you or a loved one got sick after exposure to contaminated water at Camp Lejeune ― even in utero ― a personal injury attorney from The Law Offices of John Drew Warlick, P.A. can review your case and develop a strategic plan to pursue maximum compensation for your losses now.
